El futbolista inglés Anton Walkes, que militaba en el Charlotte FC de la MLS de Estados Unidos, falleció en un accidente náutico en las proximidades de Miami, según informó este jueves su equipo.
Walkes, de 25 años y que antes había jugado en Tottenham, Portsmouth y Atlanta United, perdió la vida a primeras horas del jueves, según la información difundida. “Estamos destrozados por la pérdida de Anton Walkes, verdaderamente un increíble padre, una persona adorable y un extraordinario ser humano”, declaró en un comunicado el director deportivo del Charlotte FC, Zoran Krneta.
“Anton representaba lo que significa ser parte del Charlotte FC y toda nuestra comunidad está en duelo por esta tragedia”, añadió Krneta. Aunque el Charlotte, club en el que juega el ex Nacional Guzmán Corujo, no ofreció detalles del mortal accidente. El periódico The Miami Herald señaló que Walkes resultó herido cuando dos embarcaciones chocaron cerca del Miami Marine Stadium.
